Whether you're a student or an adult looking to improve your musical skills, The Tuneful Tech is ready to support your growth as a musician. We offer lessons both on-site and remotely through Zoom. With our team's background in education and performance, we can assist you in beginning to learn an instrument or preparing for college auditions.
What we offer in Music Lessons
Our primary focus is on establishing strong foundational techniques. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, mastering techniques ensures long-term success.
We offer lessons for the following instruments:
Flute for beginners to intermediate players
Oboe and English horn for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced
Clarinet for beginners to intermediates
Saxophone for Beginners to Advanced
Bassoon for Beginners
Brass for Beginners
Techniques we focus on are:
Breath Control: playing a wind instrument can be challenging without proper breath support. You must not only know how to take a good breath but also how to manage your air to maintain a good tone and play through phrases.
Posture: This involves not only your stance or seating with an instrument but also how you hold it. Poor posture can obstruct proper breathing and increase body tension. It's common for the instrument's weight to cause you to lean forward, backward, or sideways. We will instruct you on how to correctly hold and stand with your instrument in an ergonomic manner that facilitates breathing and playing.
Hand Positioning: It's important not only how you hold an instrument but also how you position your hands on it. Since everyone's hands are different, your hand placement may vary from other players. Proper thumb placement or where you rest your pinky on a key can aid in playing ergonomically. Being mindful of hand positioning and finger height above the keys is crucial. You want to avoid making more effort by having your fingers travel a greater distance.
Skills we may work on:
Tone and Etudes: Developing a good tone is the basis for a strong foundation. We utilize etudes as exercises to link tone with phrasing.
Practice Strategies: During lessons, we dedicate time to discussing methods that assist you in practicing between sessions. By pinpointing the skills you excel at and those you find challenging, we can develop strategies to make practice less daunting.
Performance Preparation: When it is time for performances we want you to be prepared. In a lesson we may work you towards playing a work in its entirety, working out any transition moments, flukes that may happen, but most of all being confidently prepared.
