A Flute with a Story
This flute has a distinctive story. Its original owner needed a flute that could accommodate the lack of the tip of their right ring finger. In 1959, they contacted Lewis Deveau at Haynes to not only purchase a professional flute but also to implement a necessary modification for playing. The modification involved adding a key behind the D key, functioning as a lever to make up for the player's short reach with their ring finger. In partnership with Haynes, we were able to order a French open-hole D key that works with the added lever key from the modification. This design allows a player who doesn't require the modification to play the flute comfortably, while also enabling a player who does need it to use the key by plugging the open-hole D key. Feel free to visit us anytime to explore and try this unique flute.
